Movie Mania

Based on the novel by Cornelia Funke, this charming tale follows six-year-old Bo (Jasper Harris) and fifteen-year-old Prosper (Aaron Johnson), two recently orphaned brothers who escape their impending separation by running off to Venice. There they have fantastical adventures with the mysterious masked figure known as the Thief Lord and his band of child followers, who show the boys all the magic the city has to offer…

I saw this film yesterday at the Odeon. I was reluctant to go at first, despite having loved the book, as I thought it would not stick to the book and be a bot of a fluke. However, I thought this film was fantastic. There were no real famous faces in it, but it stuck to the book and for me, was an overall sucess.

The acting was superb, especially in comarison with the likes of Danel Radcliffe in the Harry Potter films, and it was nice to see that the movie was made in mind without making more money from a video game, although I'm sure there will be one. (Lets face it, what childs movie doesn't have a video game these days?)

The music was also very good, not comparable to The Lord of the Rings music, but it was still good and afterwards the main theme was still in my mind. My only complaint about the movie, and it is a very small and picky one, is that it didn't make me scared. While reading the book I was terrified, and I didn't feel that fear in the film. But maube that's just because I'm a bit older now! The film is a PG, but I recomend it for ages 7+.
